Representatives of the following employers and networks attended WOTF16 to give careers information and advice.

 

award AWARD is a career-development program that since 2008 has, through tailored fellowships, equipped top women agricultural scientists across sub-Saharan Africa to accelerate agricultural gains by strengthening their science and leadership skills. They are cultivating a growing pool of African women to be effective within ARD institutions, responsive to gender issues in the service of women, without excluding men and technically competent to generate innovations needed by rural smallholders, most of whom are women. Their vision is to be a robust, resilient, and gender responsive agricultural innovation system working to drive prosperity and food and nutrition security for Africa. Their mission is investing in African women scientists and institutions to deliver innovative, sustainable, gender-responsive agricultural research and development.

biochemical-society The Biochemical Society promotes the future of molecular biosciences; facilitating the sharing of expertise, supporting the advancement of biochemistry and molecular biology, and raising awareness of their importance in addressing societal grand challenges. The Society supports the next generation of biochemists by promoting the opportunities offered by biochemistry and molecular biology through education and training from age 15 upwards. Additionally they bring together molecular bioscientists, promote and share knowledge, and promote the importance of the discipline.

east-of-england-ambulance The East of England Ambulance Service provide 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. They also provide non-emergency patient transport services for patients needing non-emergency transport to and from hospital, treatment centres and other similar facilities and who can’t travel unaided because of their medical condition or frailty.

 

easton-and-otley-college  Easton & Otley College is a college with two campuses in East Anglia. The school provides full-time, part-time, work based learning, distance learning and commercial training for students aged from 14 through to adulthood. The focus is on education and training for agriculture, horticulture, arboriculture, countryside, animal studies, and equine studies. Complimentary vocational areas include construction, engineering, foundation learning, sport and public services.

 

EDGE_web  EDGE is an industry-led scheme that aims to educate, develop, grow and employ young people in the food & farming industry. An important part of the EDGE project is educating young people about where their food comes from and the hundreds of careers available within the industry. EDGE have over 100 dedicated ambassadors visiting schools and attending events to promote the food & farming sectors.

HIL also provides innovation training to academic institutions, businesses and public sector organisations

The research we do makes use of a wide range of disciplines in biological and chemical sciences, including microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, molecular biology, computational and mathematical biology. We receive funding from the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) for four research areas that directly address BBSRC strategic objectives in food security, human health and industrial biotechnology

 

ktn The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is the UK’s Innovation Network. KTN connects people to speed up innovation, solve problems and find markets for new ideas. The primary role at KTN is to nurture, develop and scale up innovation within business. Working with large and small companies, government agencies and research organisations, with tech hubs and startups, public funding bodies, VCs and private investors, KTN has built a unique network that helps enterprising people and companies reach the full potential of their innovative capabilities.

 

nnuh The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust carries out nearly one million outpatient appointments, day case procedures and inpatient admissions annually.The NNUH NHS Foundation Trust consists of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Cromer and District Hospital, with some services available at other sites across Norwich. They provide services predominantly to the people of Norfolk and north Suffolk, although some patients are referred from further afield especially to access specialist services available at this Trust.

 

prospect Prospect is a trade union for professionals. Prospect’s 112,000 members are engineers, scientists, managers and specialists in areas as diverse as agriculture, defence, education and children’s services, energy, environment, heritage, shipbuilding, telecoms and transport. They are the largest union in the UK representing professional engineers. Prospect advises, defends and supports members if they have a problem at work.

 

ResNet_newlogo_150 ResNet is a contact and information network promoting gender equality at the UEA and Norwich Bioscience Institutes. ResNet is for ALL women in research and those supporting research activities, including PhD and MSc students, contract research staff, postdoctoral researchers, research fellows, administrators, technicians, research assistants, University faculty and institute project leaders.
